Latest Changes to the Accredited Employer Work Visa (AEWV) – April 2025 New reforms continue their rollout throughout 2025 in four stages, aiming to address skilled labour gaps, simplify requirements, and support both employers and migrant workers   Interim Visa Work Rights (effective 8 April 2025) Applicants transitioning from a work visa (or student visa with term‑time work) to a new AEWV will now receive an interim visa granting full work rights while their application is processed.  Latest Changes to the Accredited Employer Work Visa (AEWV) – April 2025. Time spent under this interim visa counts toward both relevant work‑experience requirements and the maximum AEWV duration. Removal of Median Wage Threshold (from March–April 2025) The previously mandatory “median wage” floor has been scrapped. Instead, employers must ensure wages comply with the applicable NZ minimum wage and match the market rate for the specific occupation  Lowered Experience Requirement & Visa Durations Work experience expectations have dropped from three to two years, widening the talent pool  Employer Advertising & Job‑Check Streamlining For lower‑skill roles (ANZSCO 4–5), the prior 21‑day advertising requirement through Work & Income is replaced by a ‘good‑faith’ declaration. INZ is also redesigning the Job Check process for low‑risk employers to improve turnaround times. Increased Income Threshold for Dependents AEWV holders must now earn at least to sponsor dependent children, a substantial rise from the previous. These changes reflect a clear shift toward flexibility, efficiency, and economic alignment.
